A new cinema company wanted a design for their booking app for a cinema, that will being opening at some time in the future.
I did not have much in the way on content to work with, as it is a new product. There was no brand, design system or colour palette to go on. Just a name. So I had free rein, which does not happen very often.
I was teamed up with a UX designer who created wireframes and we problem solved together and bounced ideas off each other and sell in ideas as a team and back each other up.
The idea was to use a dark heme, to replicate at the cinema experience. My idea was to let the movie posters bring the colours to my page. Other elements, such as a CTA's, will then be a separate colour, to guide the user where to click next. Clear signposting to take you through the booking process, which I tried to keep simple.
For the interactions (below), my main tool of choice is Principle but used Protopie for the payment pages, as you can create interactive form fields. The animations are again simple and in some cases, staggered so not everything animates at once and you can not tell what just happened.
Again, simple touches that make the user aware that something is happening. Too much going on at once will just make for a confusing experience.
The work was put on hold for the foreseeable due to covid but the client liked how the design was going and hopes to be able to come back to it and a website design
